
Welcome to the online home of the Fire Department of Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Norwood Young America is located approximately 40 miles to the west of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Staffed by 34 members, the City of Norwood Young America volunteer Fire Department provides assistance during emergency situations for the City and the surrounding area.

Softball/Volleyball Teams Compete In New Germany
Both the firefighters and their wives spent the weekend in New Germany for the annual Firefighters Softball and Volleyball tournament. While the softball team had a quick 2-game exit (losing to Waconia in round one & Cologne in round two), the volleyball team won the tournament for an amazing 4th straight year! Congratulations! |

Warehouse Fire Burns In Green Isle
A cutting torch likely sparked a fire that destroyed a warehouse in Green Isle on Wednesday. Norwood Young America was one of 20 fire departments to help fight the fire. A few employees were inside of the warehouse when the fire started but they were able to evacuation uninjured. Some nearby homes were evacuated, and the city elementary school was being used as an evacuation center for those who needed to get away from the smoke. |

FDNYA Assists Waconia in Barn Fire
Norwood Young America Fire was called to a fire in Waconia where a barn packed with fireworks exploded around 7 p.m. Carver County Police say about a half dozen people were inside the barn getting fireworks ready for a display planned for Saturday in Hamburg, when a spark from somewhere set off the fireworks inside the barn located at 6835 Goose Lake Drive. Everyone inside was able to get out of the barn but police say one man was taken to Ridgeview Medical Center with minor burns and smoke inhalation. Seven departments responded to the fire. |

In this video, a news station takes a look at how some children do not wake up to traditional smoke alarms when they go off in the middle of the night. They also show how some new technology in fire alarms may help make sure that those children wake up in the event of a fire in their home.
