
Welcome to the online home of the Fire Department of Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Norwood Young America is located approximately 40 miles to the west of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Staffed by 28 members, the City of Norwood Young America volunteer Fire Department provides assistance during emergency situations for the City of NYA and the surrounding area.

Department Softball Team Prepares For Tourney
The Norwood Young America Fire Department softball team has been practicing for the upcoming Annual Firefighter Softball Tournament in New Germany. The team has had good success the last few years, and is hoping to do the same this year. Their first game is July 30th at 9:30pm vs. Victoria Fire Department. Come on out to the game, enjoy a beer and a hamburger and cheer on the team! See you there!

Grass Fire Burns Over 85 Acres in Waconia
Norwood Young America was one of 12 departments that battled a grass fire in Waconia on Sunday afternoon. Flames broke out around 3:15pm Sunday in a swampy area of Laketown Township, which is located just east of Waconia. High winds helped fan the fire, which burned over 85 acres. One home in the are was evacuated during the fire, but no structular damage was reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Smoke Trailer Available for Fire Safety
A Smoke Trailer has been purchased by the Cologne Fire Department, Hamburg Fire Department and the Norwood Young America Fire Department. This trailer is specifically designed for training children on what to do in the event of a fire. The three departments that purchased it will be using it a variety of events around the county. FDNYA Signs Up for S.A.F.E.R. Program
The Norwood Young America Fire Department has signed up to become a member of the S.A.F.E.R. Program. The program is a program designed to help locate missing autistic children or vulnerable adults, in the event that they wander off or go missing. The Fire Department has purchased the equipment to track specially-designed "locator bracelets", that families who have ALSO signed up for the program will place on their children with autism, or vulnerable adults.
